I just finished The Host and it's a wonderful book! I cried at page 356 and at the end before the two blank pages. I was very happy with how the book ended and I fell in love with Ian. He's a very loving and accepting character that definitely touched my heart.
My car got looked at today and apparently there were 3 gaskets around the oil filter instead of one, which is what was causing the leak. I don't know how 3 got around it because we've been changing the oil on our own and I checked last time for the gaskets and couldn't find any. We had to pay $74.74 to get the oil changed on it, which is ridiculous but you do what you have to do right? Mindy took us over to Gladstone to pick it up from the VW dealership and we saw the craziest thing on our way there. We were going down highway 152 and everyone was breaking in front of us for no apparent reason. As we got closer we saw what the problem was, a lady in a white truck had lost her couch out of the back of her truck and it landed smack dab in the middle of the highway, on it's feet just sitting there like it belonged. I couldn't stop laughing, it was the insanest thing ever.
I also found out later on that Cadin was with Amanda in the E.R. The poor guy has a horrible cough that makes him vomit every time he starts having a coughing fit. They're still waiting to see what the doctor said, but she's supposed to call and let me know what's going on. I really hope he gets better soon!
I joined a few new photography game groups after reading my photojojo newsletter, I've tried one of these before but I didn't have much time for it. I hope it goes better this time because I'd really like to tinker with photography more than I do now. I want to get better at it and I know only practice will do that.
Ciao!!
As we got inside we grabbed our Host books and grabbed a seat. I got a seat in the front row a little to the left along with all the other TMs. Stephenie came out and answered a question then read a section of Chapter 11 from The Host to us, then she answered some more questions. She's so down to earth and sweet it's unbelievable! One of the questions that I personally loved was, "What has changed about you since becoming a famous author?" She said that not a lot on the outside had changed, it was all change inside of her. Sure she had a few new "toys" in the garage but the biggest thing that had changed inside of her was the ability to know she could write something people would like. She had to jump over the hurdle of thinking people wouldn't like what she wrote and it wasn't a personal self esteem issue it was a issue with thinking no one would like her stories. She mentioned that she was very shy and would rather be sitting with us in the audience and that she was hyperventilating backstage before coming out. At the very end she said she was thankful for everyone enjoying her books, showing up to her signings and for smiling at her. She was on the verge of tears and I think everyone in the audience wanted to run up and hug her.
She then started signing books, I moved a few seats down by Candace (a fellow TMs) to take pictures of Stephenie head on instead of from the left and she realized there were a few people who were on crutches and a lady in a wheel chair that needed their book signed. So she got up and came right at us!! I got the best pictures of the night from that one moment, so enjoy!
When I got up to her to have my book signed she said hi to me and I asked her how she was liking Kansas City and she said she really loved it, that the tulips were amazing. She even addressed this in the Q&A section, where she said the best thing about KC was that the tulips grew right up out of the ground here. LOL I thought it was cute because where she's from tulips don't grow that well or at all. It took her about 4 hours to sign everyones book and she was fantastic through it all. If you get a chance to go see her you should definitely do it.
Here's an article from kansascity.com which covered the signing.
Stephenie Meyer wows KC crowd
We joined the 1,000 fangirls (and a few boys) at author Stephenie Meyer’s sold-out talk Thursday at Unity Temple on the Plaza.
She’s promoting her new sci-fi book, The Host (Kansas City was just the second stop on her tour), but she answered a wide range of questions about her characters, her hopes and fears for the upcoming “Twilight” movie and life as a big-time author.
Some excerpts:
On creating The Host, in which well-meaning aliens take over bodies on Earth and countless other planets:
“That’s one of the reasons I became a writer. You get to build worlds. (Grins.) It’s great.”
On why she’s drawn to characters who don’t fit in (quiet Bella in the Twilight series, insecure Wanderer in Host):
“How many books are about people who do fit in? Every single one of us feels like we are the exception. It’s a common human feeling.”
On whether we’ll see a sequel to The Host:
“After a certain Book 4 comes out (loud cheers from the fangirls … Breaking Dawn, the finale to the Twilight series, is due in stores Aug. 2), when I’m done I just want to write for a while. It could be about ghosts, mermaids, whatever comes to me.”
She’s sort of avoiding writing a Host sequel, actually.
“This is a dangerous world. People will have to die. And there are people I don’t want to kill.”
On the “Twilight” movie, coming out Dec. 12 (she’s made suggestions but really has no creative control):
“It’s been pure fun for me. And if it’s bad, it’s not my fault. I know the odds: How many movies from a book have been good? Most of the time it’s horrible.
“But I was in L.A. — was it last week? I’m losing track of time. I got to see footage. It looks really good, guys. I’m excited.” (More cheers and applause.)
On the life of a professional author:
“You get to create something that’s so you. … And you get to share it. (On the other hand) someone goes into your story with a red pencil and crosses out your favorite scene. Or they’ll come up with a really wretched (book) cover. It seems like it’s your baby, but someone else gets to dress it.
“Still, the pros outweigh the cons.”

Today's the day! Stephenie Meyer here I come :) I'm meeting around 13 of the women from the twilightmoms forum there today @ 2pm so we can save seats in line. I also just read that personal video is strictly prohibited :( so my video camera is staying home :( I was hoping my head cold would be better today, so I'm going to be all stuffed up, sneezy, itchy eyes and runny nose while meeting SM, she'll understand, she has kids!! I've got my books packed, a poncho, my camera, snacks, directions, my confirmation email and my iPod. I'm off!
Alright so here's the pictures of my shirt I made to go see Stephenie Meyer tomorrow, now it's not perfect and the oopsies only add character to my handmade shirt.
Oopsies numero dos! I ironed on the petal falling separetly from the flower and I accidentally singed the flower with the edge of the iron right as I was finishing.
I very rarely have one of those days where I just feel down in the dumps and today is one of those days. I think it's the combination of the cruddy weather & my new found head cold I have. I'm not sure if it's allergies or a head cold, but it needs to go away. I just wish things would start working out for once, I haven't had a call for an interview yet & I seriously don't want this to be the third year in a row...I keep doing all that I know to do to get a job and it just doesn't seem to be enough. I feel like screaming @ my school district who has at least a couple people I know of working there and they aren't even certified to be teaching. I don't get it...I don't think I ever will understand that kind of thinking.
I really want to go pick up my copy of The Host, but I don't feel like driving all the way over there for it, so I guess I'll wait til tomorrow to get it at the book signing. *sigh*
I read an article on CNN.com today, that talked about how blogs are group therapy. It's amazing how many blogs there are out there, it's such an feeling outlet for anyone and everyone. I don't mean just for someone to run to their blog and throw a bitch fit (although that's a good way too) I'm talking about really talking about deep problems and getting advice and support back. It's really just another great side affect of having the internet at our fingertips.
P.S.
Last night Dad & I watched P.S. I love you & Over Her Dead Body. They were both good movies, extremely funny & worth a watch if you have some spare time.
The twilight trailer and grab a paper bag b/c you'll need one!!
- Here's the shot by shot breakdown on MTV along with the trailer.
- Then here's the full screen version!
- Also MTV wants your reaction to the trailer by having you create a video blog and upload it to the MTV site, check it out here to see how to upload your video!
I luv it!! It's going to be fantastic I know it. You even get a glimpse of Jasper's hair and it no longer looks cheesy to me! I made my t-shirt I'm wearing to see SM on Thursday, today. It has the Twilight book cover on the right sleeve, the Eclipse book cover on the left sleeve & the New Moon book cover in the middle. I can't wait til Thursday!!
Ciao!
So with the new rule going on you have to have a digital converter box hooked up to your television to get local channels if you don't have cable or satellite. Dad got on the website a few months ago and got the coupons sent to us to get $40 off of any converter box at a participating retail store. We went and got them today @ Wal-Mart and first off the cashier was like "What are these?" "Coupons" I replied...then I had to wait 5 minutes for someone to come down so she could figure out how to process them. We get home and hook them up to the tv's and voila! The tv in my room didn't get channel four very well and now I get it clear as day. I also get the sub channels of our local channels that I never got before, only dad's high def antenna would get them on the tv in the living room. We haven't had satellite in a while and I don't really miss it.
Last night Amanda & I hosted our first partylite candle show and it was a bust. We invited 27 people together and one person showed up and she didn't get there until a little after 9pm when Sheryl (the consultant) was packed up. I was really disappointed. We had 4 people RSVP, 3 cancel and Sheryl said the rule was normally a third of your guest list would show up, so technically we were supposed to have around 8 people there. LOL what a joke...I felt like a ass b/c we essentially wasted Sheryl's time for nothing, but she seemed ok with it. Amanda wanted to try again, I wasn't to keen on the idea of feeling like a donkey again, but we shall see.
We bought a kite today, our 3rd one and guess what? 3 times in a row I got one that was missing pieces. How can that possibly happen? Anyways I tried to return it again and they didn't have any more so I got a store credit. I'll run to the Richmond Wal-Mart tomorrow and hope they have one there. I don't know what it is about kites that just make me happy. It may be the memories of going to Rocky Hollow and flying them with my dad, then barbecuing afterwards. It gives me a sense of happiness and makes me laugh/giggle. Dad usually goes with me when I fly them :)
This week is going to be nuts, I'm subbing for a third grade class Tuesday, Thursday is the book signing event with Stephenie Meyer & then Friday is dad's appointment for his check up after the surgery. Until later!
Ciao!
I apologize for the past few days, I've been substituting and my sleep habit of about 4am-noon was severely disturbed. I luv the class I've been subbing for though :) they make me smile. I'm subbing for them again on Tuesday and then the Tuesday after that. 6 more days til the book event :) Ok this is a short one I don't have much to say. Oh wait! We got a crazy storm last night with 80 mph winds and a few tornadoes here and there. The damage is crazy, there were trees down and power lines everywhere in Gladstone, which is near us. We had a lot of branches down, again...that means more yard work for moi. Anyways....I'm out!
Ciao!
http://www.greetingsfromtwilight.com/ is the new site the production crew put up to give us more behind the scenes of the movie, be sure to check it often!

on A great night @ the signing!
